Debuting in both Austin, TX and Southern California, the first episode of He She She Shed isn’t holding back. The focus this week was on themed backyard bars, starring two Tuff Shed buildings. They were designed with minimal upgrades so that they could be blank slates for the creative competition between Luke Barr and Sarah Farrell.

Starting in Southern California, radio disc jockey PJ (DJ PJ) was more than ready to turn his passion for pirates into a poolside party bar. Show co-host, Luke Barr took on the task of bringing the high seas into the backyard. The team pulled out all the stops with a “mast”, constructed from a salvaged telephone pole. While it took a little engineering and some sheer muscle power, the mast was installed along with a crows nest and Jolly Roger. Next up was the hidden bar, powered by a hydraulic system, housed within the cabinetry inside the He Shed. While PJ wanted his parties to reign supreme in the backyard shed, he also requested an area that could be used as a mini-recording studio. While the process took a good measure of creativity and reworking elements to look antique, the final product is a sight to behold. Finishing touches on the party bar were porthole aquariums and classic pirate themed décor. The pirate party shed was a hit not only with PJ but with his friends and family as well. Arrghh!

Over in Austin, TX, homeowner and hostess Erin was envisioning a Tiki-themed backyard party zone. Her new Tuff Shed building was the perfect starting point for an outdoor living space that brought out all the relaxation of a tropical locale without needing to leave the city. A section of the front wall of the shed was removed to make way for glass accordion doors to open out onto a deck. While Erin didn’t have many specific design needs for her party shed, the style had to live up to her legendary parties and show co-host Sarah had her work cut out for her. Wow factors in this party paradise included an outdoor Tiki pizza oven, surfboard bartop, and a seascape floor. The kickoff party proved that the islands (or tiki sheds) are the only place to party. Excuse us while we grab our grass skirts.

While both of the customized Tuff Shed buildings brought their own brand of party style, the winner this week was the pirate shed, dreamed up by Luke and PJ. Tune in next week to see how Luke and Sarah transform two new sheds into backyard havens.
